By Kate Fletcher, Macaroni KID Binghamton Publisher July 9, 2023

This summer, visit your nearby farmers markets to meet your local farmers and artisans, buy fresh produce, and enjoy delicious prepared food!

Farmers markets are a great way to get fresh, local produce, support your community, and learn about where your food comes from. Here are just a few of the reasons to consider shopping at a farmers market:

  • Fresher produce: Fruits and vegetables sold at farmers markets are picked at their peak ripeness and often delivered to the market the same day. This means you'll get the freshest, most flavorful produce possible.
  • Seasonal produce: Farmers markets offer a wide variety of seasonal produce, so you can enjoy the best of what is in season. You'll inevitably end up learning about new fruits and vegetables and experimenting with new recipes.
  • Support local farmers: When you shop at a farmers market, you're directly supporting your local farmers, helping to keep your community vibrant and sustainable.
  • Meet the farmers: Many farmers markets allow you to meet the farmers who grew your food. Take the opportunity to learn about their farming practices and ask questions about the produce you're buying!
  • Enjoy the atmosphere: Farmers markets are a great place to get out and enjoy the fresh air and sunshine. They're also a great place to meet new people and learn about your community.
