Getting sick with the flu is much scarier than any zombie, vampire, or monster! But that doesn't mean we can't have fun when we talk with our kids about influenza. Share these jokes with them as a way to start conversations about the flu and why getting a vaccine is so important.
The flu is a very contagious disease. When someone with the flu coughs, talks, sneezes, or breathes, they spread tiny droplets of the virus. You can even spread the flu before you are sick! That is why it is so important to get your flu shot and to stay home if you start to have any symptoms.
The flu can give you a fever, chills, tiredness, headaches, sore muscles, stuffy nose, cough, vomiting, and diarrhea. Symptoms usually start fast and can last for days or weeks and even send you to the hospital.
⚠️ High Risk for Children
Some people even get pneumonia, inflammation of the heart, or sepsis. Kids are especially at risk for complications. Tragically, the number of children who have died from the flu has increased over the last few years. It’s more important than ever before to make sure all kids 6 months and older get their flu shots!
The type of flu that goes around is slightly different from year to year. That’s why it’s important to get your flu shot every fall! Scientists all over the world work together to figure out which flu strain will be the most common each season and then design a shot to prevent it!
