2026 Empire State Arts Scholarship Applications Now Open: Grades 6-12

With awards of up to $2,000, the program helps remove financial barriers so high need students

Summer arts programs offer incredible experiences, but the costs can sometimes feel like a hurdle. The New York State Education Department (NYSED) has officially opened applications for the 2026 Empire State Arts Scholarship Program. This initiative is designed to help students in grades 6–12 across New York access high-quality summer arts education by removing financial barriers.

What You Need to Know

This program provides scholarships to help "high-need" students participate in New York-based summer programs in dance, music, visual arts, media arts, and theatre.

Is My Child Eligible?

To qualify for this opportunity, students must meet the following criteria:

  1. Grade Level: Currently enrolled in grades 6–12.
  2. Residency: Must be a New York State resident and receive education within the state.
  3. Financial Need: Demonstrate economic need through participation in an economic assistance program.
