Central New York ISR is proud to bring the life-saving Infant Swimming Resource (ISR) program back to the Southern Tier! Certified ISR Instructor Stehli Krause will be offering her expertise to teach children aged 6 months to 6 years vital aquatic self-rescue skills, prioritizing safety, confidence, and independence in the water.
Program Details:
- Location: Jewish Community Center (JCC) Pool - 500 Clubhouse Rd. Vestal, NY
- Next Session Start Date: April 13, 2026
- Ages: 6 months to 6 years
- Duration: 6 weeks
Lesson Schedule (Daily Attendance Required, Monday - Friday):
- Morning Sessions: 7AM – 9AM
- Mid-Day Sessions: 11AM – 12:30PM
- Format: Each child receives individualized, 10-minute, one-on-one lessons for focused, personalized instruction and consistent progress.
ISR vs. Conventional Swim Lessons:
ISR focuses on making children self-sufficient aquatic problem solvers by teaching them to roll onto their back to float, rest, and breathe if they encounter water unexpectedly. This is a crucial distinction from traditional lessons:
- Self-Rescue Focus: Teaches independent floating skills instead of exhausting treading water or reliance on flotation devices (which are strictly advised against, as they promote the dangerous "drowning position").
- Personalized Instruction: Unlike group classes, ISR uses one-on-one, 10-minute sessions, ensuring the instructor provides full attention tailored to your child’s individual needs, accelerating competence.
- Safety First: Comprehensive protocols include medical reviews by a team of nurses/physicians and student-driven lessons that adjust based on the child's well-being.
- Real-World Practice: Once skills are mastered, lessons incorporate swimming in clothes to simulate a real-world fall.
Meet the Instructor: Stehli Krause
Stehli Krause witnessed the power of ISR firsthand when the program's founder taught her young twins in Miami. Recognizing the gap in availability upon moving to Clinton, NY, she became a certified instructor, dedicating herself to bringing these essential skills to the Central New York region and the Southern Tier.
