A beloved local tradition is back on track with an exciting new view. The Roberson Museum, located at 30 Front Street in Binghamton, is thrilled to announce the grand re-opening of its iconic Model Train Layout in a new, permanent home!
For months, Roberson’s dedicated team of expert model train volunteers have been hard at work moving the entire, sprawling layout. Now, it has found its new home in the museum's Heritage Gallery, offering visitors the region’s largest public model train display with a whole new perspective.
Explore Local History from a Bird's-Eye View
The Model Train Layout offers a fascinating bird's-eye view of Binghamton’s industrial history. The intricately designed scenes depict the railways as they looked in the 1950s, winding through local communities like Johnson City, Owego, Endicott, and even parts of Northern Pennsylvania. It's a fantastic way for kids (and adults!) to explore local history, architecture, and geography in miniature.
Ribbon Cutting and Never-Before-Seen Views!
You're invited to be the first to experience the train layout in its brand new location on Saturday, October 11, from 12-3pm.
The official celebration will kick off with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 12:30pm, featuring remarks from lead volunteer Bob Hamilton on the enduring legacy of this beloved exhibition.
Thanks to the move, the display now offers never-before-seen views of the Owego stretch of the railroad!
