We've got some exciting news to share from The Discovery Center of the Southern Tier in Binghamton - a valued sponsor of Macaroni KID Binghamton! Our family recently experienced their newly upgraded 12 News exhibit and it was an absolute hit with the kids.
From the moment we walked in, their eyes lit up. The exhibit perfectly recreates a real news studio, and our kids immediately gravitated towards the microphone at the news desk. They took turns, with infectious enthusiasm, stepping into the role of anchor, delivering their "breaking news" with all the gravitas a pint-sized journalist can muster.
They were a dynamic duo: one child commanding the news desk, the other striking poses in front of the green screen, hands gesturing wildly as they "reported" the weather. Our oldest, a budding anchor, meticulously read from the provided scripts, confidently announcing lines like "Welcome to WBNG Channel 12's Rainy Weather Report!" Not to be outdone, our youngest, a natural improviser, had me in stitches with unscripted gems, like "This weather report is the best weather report ever! Rainy day in Binghamton!"
For those who love to dress up, there are even suit jackets and ties available for the kids to complete their broadcast journalist look. My kids couldn't get enough of seeing themselves on the monitors – it was like their own personal TV debut.
For those who are familiar with the previous iteration of the news exhibit, I think you'll agree this is a fantastic upgrade, offering a wonderfully interactive and imaginative experience for children of all ages. Access to the exhibit is included with admission which is $10 per person and free for members and children under 1. Discounts are available for EBT card holders, seniors, and veterans. There is also a monthly FREE admission night on the first Friday of each month from 4-7pm. Museum hours are Monday-Friday: 10am-3pm; Saturday: 10am-5pm; Sunday: 12-5pm.
