By Kate Fletcher, Macaroni KID Binghamton Publisher October 30, 2024

With all of the trunk or treats and other events this year, when Halloween is over, you'll likely be swimming in a sea of sugary treats. While it's tempting to indulge, many parents worry about the health consequences of excessive candy consumption. But don't despair! There are plenty of ways to manage your "leftover" Halloween candy.

Here are a few ideas to help you make the most of your sweet haul:

Sell Your Candy

  • Dinosaur Dental: Bring your candy to their office (1700 Monroe Street in Endicott, NY) on November 1st between 1-5 PM and they'll buy it for $1 per pound. The candy is then sent to our troops and local community organizations.

Donate Your Candy

Get Creative with Your Candy

  • Gingerbread House: Start preparing for the holidays by creating a festive gingerbread house adorned with your extra Halloween candy. Consider entering your creation into The Discovery Center's Annual Gingerbread Village contest!
  • Candy Bouquet: Candy bouquets are a unique and fun way to give candy as a gift. You can find tutorials online on how to make your own.
  • Candy Piñata: Candy piñatas are a great way to add fun to a party. Fill a piñata with candy and other small prizes for guests to enjoy.

Other Ideas

  • Freeze it: If you're not ready to get rid of all of your candy right away, you can freeze it and enjoy it later. Most candy will last for several months in the freezer.
  • Use it in Recipes: There are many recipes that use candy as an ingredient. You can use candy to make cookies, cakes, brownies, and other sweet treats for upcoming holidays.

No matter what you choose to do with your Halloween candy, make sure to enjoy it responsibly!
