Is your home safe for your family? Does anyone in your household suffer from allergies or respiratory problems? Are you concerned about lead paint, fire hazards, or potential slip-and-fall dangers?
If so, the Broome County Health Department's Healthy Neighborhoods Program (HNP) can help! This FREE program provides in-home safety checks for qualifying Broome County residents.
Here's what the Healthy Neighborhoods Program offers:
- Free in-home safety visits: Trained professionals will assess your home for potential health and safety hazards.
- Free safety supplies: Based on the assessment, the program may provide free safety supplies to address identified issues.
- Qualified professionals: Trained staff will conduct the visits and answer any questions you may have.
Who is eligible?
The program is open to all Broome County residents, regardless of income, housing type (house or apartment), or ownership status (renter or owner).
What to expect:
- Scheduling: Request a free home visit by submitting the Healthy Home Safety Check Form on the Broome County Health Department's website.
- Home Safety Visit: Visits are scheduled Monday to Friday during business hours. The visit typically takes 45 minutes to 1.5 hours, depending on the size and complexity of your home.
- Follow-up: Up to two follow-up visits can be scheduled per year after the initial assessment.
If you think your home has potential issues with indoor air quality, lead-based paint, fire hazards, slips-and-fall prevention, or pest control, you can protect your family's health and safety with a free home safety check.
