Winter Fun Awaits at The Discovery Center for Children of All Ages

Mark your calendars for these engaging workshops, special events, and free admission nights!

Brrrrr! It's officially winter, but that doesn't mean the fun stops at Binghamton's favorite hands-on haven, The Discovery Center of the Southern Tier! Get ready for a season packed with exciting events, engaging workshops, and vibrant celebrations that will keep your little learners warm and entertained all winter long. So grab your coats, pack your imaginations, and prepare to embark on a journey of discovery!

ADMISSION 
If you're not members yet, admission to the Museum is $10 for visitors over the age of 12 months.  The Museum offers discounts for EBT cardholders, active duty military personnel, veterans, and their household family members. And, [almost] every first and third Friday of the month is Free Admission Night when everyone can enjoy three hours (4-7pm) of unlimited play for $0.

Here's what you can look forward to in January and February at The Discovery Center:

Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration
For children of all ages
WHEN: 11AM-1PM on Monday, January 15, 2024
WHAT: Celebrate peace and fun at The Discovery Center with crafts and special activities that remind us what Martin Luther King Jr. taught about non-violence.
HOW: Activities are free with museum admission.


Free Admission Nights
For children of all ages
WHEN: 4-7PM on January 19; February 2; and February 16, 2024
WHAT: Enjoy a night of free admission to The Discovery Center on the first and third Friday of every month! January's free admission nights are made possible by the generous support of the Broome County Arts Council’s United Cultural Fund.


Chinese Lunar New Year Celebration
For children of all ages
WHEN: 11AM-1PM on Saturday, February 10, 2024
WHAT: Visit with members of our local Chinese Cultural Center and experience diverse flavorful food, engage in cultural artistry, and join in on the Chinese Lunar Parade at The Discovery Center. Here's a quick video from last year to give you an idea of what to expect!
HOW: Activities are free with museum admission.


Tell Me a Story and Sing Me a Song: The Traditions of Duke Ellington and Ella Fitzgerald
For ages 6-12 and their families
WHEN: 11AM-1PM on Saturday, February 24, 2024
WHAT: Prepare to sing, clap, and sway as award-winning author and illustrator Andrea and Brian Pinkney bring their iconic music-themed stories to life.
HOW: The program is free with museum admission, but registration is required as seating is limited to 100.


Toddler Time
Ideal for ages 1-4
WHEN: 10AM-12PM on Mondays
WHAT: Toddler Time is a weekly program for toddlers and preschoolers that offers special activities to build developmental skills.
HOW: Activities are free with museum admission.

STEAM for Little Hands
Ideal for ages 1-4
WHEN: 10AM-12PM on Wednesdays
WHAT: STEAM for Little Hands is a weekly program for toddlers and preschoolers that introduces them to science, technology, engineering, arts, and math through hands-on activities. .
HOW: Activities are free with museum admission.
