The holidays are over, the presents unwrapped, and the only thing left standing is your once-majestic Christmas tree. But fret not, Binghamton residents! Before sending your festive friend off to the trash heap, consider giving it a new lease on life through recycling.
Christmas trees, once broken down, become valuable resources for our community. They can be chipped into wood chips for nutrient-rich mulch in our parks and gardens, or composted to replenish the soil. Just be sure to remove all decorations, plastic bags, and tinsel before disposal!
So, ditch the guilt and embrace the green! Here's where you can responsibly dispose of your Christmas tree in Broome County:
Ross Park Zoo 185 Park Ave, Binghamton, NY 🎄 Will accept trees 10am-4pm Monday-Friday, from December 26, 2024 - January 31, 2025. The trees will be used for the animal habitats, so it is important they are decoration-free, without hooks, tinsel, or any treatments (flocking, fire retardant, insecticide, etc.). |
NYSDEC Sub-Office |
Broome County Landfill 286 Knapp Rd., Binghamton, NY 🎄 Will accept trees at the residential drop-off area located at the landfill 7am-2:45pm Monday-Friday and Saturday 7am-11:45am from December 26, 2024-January 31, 2025. The trees are chipped and composted. |
Residents with municipal or private curbside service should check with their respective garbage hauler for specific tree disposal instructions. For more information about holiday recycling, visit Broome County Recycling.
