Binghamton University Research Study Seeks Families with Infants

BU's Early Neurocognitive Development Team will compensate research participants $30 per hour

By Early Neurocognitive Development (ENCoDe) Team at Binghamton University December 12, 2023

Do you want to help scientific research on early brain and cognitive development? We are seeking families with babies 12 months or younger!

Do you have or know someone with an infant who is 12 months or younger and would be interested in contributing to research projects on the early neurodevelopment? Well, let me introduce you to ENCoDe! We are the Early Neurocognitive Development (ENCoDe) team, a group of researchers at Binghamton University, who is currently studying cognitive development in the first year of life.

Here is an overview of our research:

WHO

We are the Early Neurocognitive Development (ENCoDe) team at Binghamton University. This research team is directed by Dr. Stefania Conte, and composed of graduate and undergraduate students, and research staff.

WHAT

The ENCoDe team is conducting research on the development of face processing and social communication in infants. We seek to gain a greater understanding of the relationships that exists between the development of various structures in the brain and the neural mechanisms that drive brain activity in infants. This is mainly achieved through the use of electroencephalogram (EEG) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) signals.

WHY

This research is important for our understanding of cognitive functions and mechanisms that support the development of facial processing and social communication, while also helping to guide the investigation of atypical neurodevelopmental trajectories.

WHERE

We are located in the Science 4 building at Binghamton University. In addition, we utilize the new MRI machine located within the Brain and Body Imaging Research Center at UHS Vestal. For more information on how to find our lab and the Brain and Body Imaging Research Center, click here.

HOW

Our research is completed using behavioral assessments, EEG recordings, and MRI scans. Each visit usually lasts between 1 and 2 hours. Depending on the age of your child, there are studies that may require only one visit, while others involve multiple visits. You will be compensated $30 dollars per hour for your time.

If you or someone you know is interested in this research opportunity, please fill out our interest form. We will be happy to tell you more about how you can help science! Thank you for helping with our research projects!
