Review: Bluey's Big Play VIP Experience in Binghamton

Here's what you can expect from Bluey's Big Play at the Broome County Forum Theatre!

By Kate Fletcher, Macaroni KID Binghamton Publisher November 2, 2023

Bluey's Big Play, the live stage adaptation of the popular children's TV show, is a must-see for any Bluey fan. And, the VIP Experience makes it even better!

This post is sponsored by Broadway in Binghamton, who provided us with free VIP tickets to this event.

We bought tickets in June as soon as they went on sale, so our kids have been buzzing with anticipation for five months about seeing Bluey [and Bingo and Mum and Dad] live here in Binghamton. Last month, we gained the opportunity to meet Bluey by receiving VIP tickets and we gave our original seats to the Macaroni KID Binghamton subscriber who won our ticket giveaway.

For those on the fence about going tonight, or for anyone who just wants to know what to expect, you can view this 40 second reel and read this recap of our experience:

PRE-SHOW
We arrived at the Forum about 35 minutes prior to the show which gave us plenty of time to check in at the VIP station, receive our VIP lanyards, use the restrooms, and explore the merchandise and concessions in the lobby.

There are a few "show exclusive" items available at the Merchandise Counter including the Magic Asparagus Light Spinner. Be prepared for your child to point at this colorful contraption and say "I want that." You can find the menu of merchandise here: Bluey's Big Play Merchandise.

By 5:40pm, our kids were eager to see the theatre. While you might want to delay seating an antsy toddler until as close to showtime as possible, just keep in mind that booster seats are first come, first serve.

THE SHOW

It's 50 minutes of fun and entertainment - just like the TV show. However, the life size characters, special lighting effects, and live audience in the theatre setting create a very unique and memorable experience. I thoroughly enjoyed watching my kids' eyes light up and smiles stretch across their faces throughout the performance.

The smiles grew even bigger after the Heeler family took their bows and the puppeteers tossed giant balloons from the stage. Shrieks and giggles echoed in the theatre as the audience played a game of Keepy Uppy. (Note: If you want to be in on this action, the closer you are to the stage the better. If you only want to watch, balcony seats are right for you.)

POST-SHOW

When the show ended, as VIP ticket holders, we enjoyed a quick visit and photo opp with Bluey. (Bluey's friends use your phone and take the photos for you, so you'll want to wipe your camera lens and consider turning on the motion/live photo setting before handing over your phone.)

Before leaving, we all received a stuffed Chattermax to take home.

Overall, it was a great evening for our family and the kids left with great memories of a fun family night out at the theatre.
