Ways to Save

Money Tight or Just Want to Save Up? Here's Some Tips!

By Katherine Troy, Publisher - Binghamton Macaroni Kid January 23, 2019

It's so hard not to overspend! Whether you're trying to save up for something special, or are just trying to make ends meet - we have some helpful tips below of ways that you can save. (Note: some of these may contain affiliate links. Also, some of these may be considered ways you can EARN, rather than save. We say all to the good!)

Couponing: If you've watched the TLC Specials on Couponing, this might be the thing for you! You can spend as much time on it as you see fit. Not sure how to get started? Get your local paper, ask neighbors for their coupon section, or join a local couponing group to learn the ropes! Do a Facebook search of coupon groups in your area!

Groupon: This site is fantastic if you want to try something new, and are looking for great deals in your area.

APPS

These helpful phone apps can save you HUNDREDS of dollars if you use them often enough!

Ibotta: Earn 'rebates' on groceries, sales, and more. I've earned over $100 in less than a year using iBotta. I recommend using it for things you were already planning on buying, regular groceries, etc. If you just go off of the deals listed, you'll end up overspending! Once you reach $20, you can withdraw your earnings.

ShopKick: Earn 'points' for visiting stores in your area, scanning merchandise, or making purchases. The points add up to GIFT CARDS! This is a great way to shop for presents, as you're never losing any money, just gaining! It's a great incentive to be more active, as well. Mall walking a few days a week will quickly earn you cash!

DoshThis app is great, because I really don't have to do anything. I just occasionally get money back! It sits there, and boom. $10.

Saving Star: This is another grocery app that can really save you some cash! Especially if you're loyal to certain brands.

Paribus:  You know when a price drops right after you buy something? Wouldn't it be nice if, say, you could just get the difference back without the fuss? You can! True story. Paribus refunds you the money to your original form of payment within 3 - 7 business days. Cool right?

Checkout 51: This is great for groceries. For example, there are fruit snacks, pop tarts, cereal, and more that you can get money back on. Once your account balance reaches $20, you can cash out any time.

Receipt Hog: Companies want to see what consumers buy, in what quantities, what correlations, etc. Receipt hog has a simple premise: you take pictures of your receipts, they use the raw data to give them consumer information. You get paid!

Fetch Rewards: With the same premise as Receipt Hog, Fetch Rewards gives you point to put towards reward that you can redeem for gift cards.
